Ryan "Koup" Kuperus is a retired U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant who spent more than 17 years across the Infantry, Reconnaissance, and Force Reconnaissance communities before being medically retired in 2017. He enlisted in 2000, trained as a rifleman, and went on to deploy multiple times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, including service with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit and time leading a squad in combat.

Since leaving active duty, Ryan has built a second calling around hunting and the outdoors, an outlet that's helped him heal in ways other approaches couldn't. He now spends much of his time introducing veterans to hunting and mentoring them through the outdoors, sharing the same experience that changed his own path forward. That mission lives on through The Reason Outdoors, where he continues to bring others into the field with him.
